In connection with the plumbing renovation, the lighting in the bathroom and toilet was also replaced, as well as the lighting in the kitchen. When the ceilings were lowered, the opportunity for recessed LED spotlights as well as LED strip lighting indirectly illuminating from the ceiling gutter opened up, which was exploited. The lighting design was carried out according to the client's wishes, with Harriet Währn from LedStore as designer.

A great bathroom makeover - a lighting upgrade transformed the space for the better

In the bathroom, the lighting was designed by adding a fair amount of light. Previously, there were two GU10 halogen bulbs in the ceiling and two small lamps in a box above the mirror cabinet. Two 9W colour-temperature adjustable LED downlights were installed in the ceiling, i.e. the spot Fixed Base. The biggest change to the lighting came with LedStore's colour temperature adjustable ultra-flat novelty LED strip Tunnelma SOLO CCT 7,2 W/m, which was brought into the space both in the groove between the new ceiling panelling and the wall in the aluminium profile, and embedded in the wall between the first and second tile line. An LED strip was installed in the wall in a watertight recessed profile, and the corner of the shower was further sealed with silicone.

"Successful bathroom lighting! We had not planned such a solution before, so the bathroom with its recessed profiles in Breli gave us new experience in using LED strip lighting," says Janne Halttu of LedStore.

The bathroom got a lot of new look with a lighting upgrade

"It's great that the design phase also took into account the lighting installation issues, and the bathroom was a pleasure to work with LedStore in that respect as well. The Led strips and drivers are a good solution for bathroom lighting as they are serviceable and the wiring is tubular, so if a problem arises or we want to change the strip inside the aluminium profile, we can do it. The Led rails were made ready for installation by LedStore's Workshop, which saved time during installation," Brelih explains.

Toilet lighting - create a soft atmosphere with indirect light

We wanted to keep the lighting in the same style as in the bathroom. Indirect LED strip lighting was installed around the walls. One 9 W downlight was also sufficient for the small space. The lights are both dimmable and colour temperature adjustable, meaning that the Kelvin of the white light can be slidably adjusted via a wireless wall controller between about 2 500 K and 6 500 K between warm and cool white. No wiring was required for the controllers, saving time and effort.

The lighting in the hallway underwent a big change

In the hallway, the plumbing renovation caused some headaches in terms of lowering the ceiling. This was because the hallway had a full-height sliding door cupboard, which posed a challenge. After some deliberation, the solution was to lower the ceiling around the cupboard. At the same time, it was also decided to use this space on the ceiling, above the cupboard, for lighting. The hallway was given versatile lighting with beautiful 9W Round R023 downlights and a Tunnelma SOLO CCT 7.2 W/m LED strip in an aluminium profile, which illuminates the ceiling from the hallway and gives the space a more spacious feel. These lights can also be controlled wirelessly. The dimmer can be dimmed and the colour temperature of the lights can be changed infinitely. The lights can also be used separately, so the LED strip can be kept on even at night, dimmed down to bring a little echo as an accent light.
The addition of lighting in the hallway added a sense of space and soft light to the room. The LED strips and LED spots are colour temperature adjustable and dimmable.

Innovative creativity in the kitchen with LED rails for extra light

Brelih was also interested in additional lighting in the kitchen, as the old halogen lights, both above the cabinets and on the worktops, were becoming a little inefficient. However, not wanting to get rid of them completely, the solution was to replace the halogens with the same type of strip lighting used for the bathroom: colour temperature adjustable and dimmable LED strip lights in an aluminium profile. The aluminium profile is particularly important in kitchens where water and grease splash on the worktop and dust easily accumulates on the cabinets. The plastic diffuser on the surface of the aluminium profile prevents dirt from coming into direct contact with the LED circuit, while the material itself cools the strip and keeps it long-lasting. Both levels have their own drivers, so the brightness and colour temperature of the strips can be adjusted separately. Inspired by the versatility of LED strip, Brelih also wanted a ceiling light that used the same type of LED strip as the rest of the kitchen, and decided to create her own light. "I found a model of a light and based on its picture I made my own. I got a LedStore LED strip in aluminium profile for the light source, and I made a ceiling box of the right size for the drivers. I'm familiar enough with woodworking that the frame came together easily. In addition, the light has a metal tube in the middle with a wire for the driver, and the wire ropes on the sides reinforce the stability of the luminaire part and are a stylish detail. The light is dimmable and has a sliding colour temperature control. With such a wide range of adjustments, I wouldn't have found a light in a shop," says Brelih with satisfaction.
More high-quality light was brought into the kitchen with an LED strip. On top of the kitchen cabinets and countertop lighting. In addition, the LED strip was used as a light source for self-made lighting.
An LED strip at the bottom of the cabinetry was installed in addition to the halogen spotlights. The Led strips are colour temperature adjustable and dimmable, giving the kitchen more light and variability through dimming and colour temperature control.

Products used in lighting renovation

The spots used were LED Downlight Round R023 and Fixed Stand SQ023 with white body. The spots were connected to wireless 24VDC 50W Zigbee group transformers to allow for sliding colour temperature control. A wireless white Zigbee controller was used for colour temperature control and dimming. These can also be connected to the Hue Bridge mobile controller, as the drivers are Zigbee products.

The downlights were implemented with high quality high colour rendering index spots and Zigbee group transformers connected to wireless controllers.
The LED strip used was SOLO 7.2 W/m TUNNELMA CCT, which offers infinitely variable colour temperature and light brightness. For the bathroom lighting, a 2500x8x28 IP 65 flush-mounted profile was used. In the other areas , a 2500x16x18 surface-mounted profile was used .

This successful lighting renovation in the bathroom and other areas paid off, as the living comfort improved enormously!

Bathroom lighting plays an important role in the comfort and working environment. People spend a lot of time in bathrooms, sometimes relaxing and sometimes doing laundry, for example. Bathroom lighting should therefore be adaptable, and this was the case here. The lighting in all corners of the bathroom is even, which adds to the sense of space and allows the light to be used in a variety of ways. Sometimes you can have only indirect lighting through the ceiling, and sometimes spotlights. A strip of light from below the wall also adds another level of illumination, which is a welcome addition. The renovation of the other spaces made use of the same elements, adding to the comfort and versatility of the lighting.
