What do you need for lighting control?
For lighting control to work properly, you need:
- Controllers or power supplies with a controller that support the desired control system (e.g. Zigbee, DALI, Tuya or VaLO RF).
- A wall switch or remote control to operate the lights to be controlled. You can connect the controllers directly to the controllers without a network connection. - Hub or smart home system, although this is an option. This requires you to connect a small can to your home router via a network cable and then download the free app. Your phone will find the Hub on your local network. Get the Hub if you want to control your lighting from your phone, schedule lighting or integrate lights into your home automation. Different Hubs are offered by Philips HUE, Azoula, Tuya, Ikea Trädfi, etc.
- Bonus! All of the above Hubs can add devices directly to Apple Homekit, Google Home and Amazon Alexa systems.

DALI - Professional and reliable control
DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is a cable-based control system that is often used in offices, commercial spaces and high-end properties. It allows luminaire-specific control and precise dimming. An excellent choice for new builds or comprehensive lighting solutions where a wired system is desired. Often as part of a KNX home.

Zigbee - Wireless and compatible with many systems
Zigbee is a favourite in smart homes. It works wirelessly and connects luminaires and controllers from different manufacturers to the same network. Zigbee lighting can be controlled by apps such as Azoula, Tuya, Philips Hue or IKEA Trådfri. Very broadly supported. Suitable for new or retrofit applications.

Tuya - A wide and versatile system
Tuya is a cloud-based smart lighting solution that uses WiFi, Zigbee and BLE connectivity. It is ideal for retrofitting as no separate cabling is required. It can be controlled directly via the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app. In addition to Zigbee, Tuya extends the device library with a wider range of technologies (WiFi), e.g. cameras, doorbells, curtain motors, etc. Tuya's special feature is the smart screens on the wall where you control everything from one place. RF (Radio Frequency) - A simple and reliable solution
The RF system uses radio frequencies and is controlled by remote controls or wall switches without an internet connection. This makes it a very easy and affordable option for cottages, apartments, renovation projects and general control of small spaces.

Can lighting control be retrofitted?
Yes, you can! Wireless systems like RF, Zigbee and Tuya are perfect for retrofitting. They allow you to upgrade your lighting to smart without having to rewire.
Lighting can often be installed by simply plugging a plug into the wall and pairing the lights directly to a remote control or wireless wall button. Adding indirect light to a space without breaking surfaces is particularly popular.
Which lighting control do I choose?
- Choose RF for example for lights in a kitchen area or for a few lights and don't care.
- Choose Zigbee if you're doing a larger installation or if it's important for you to be able to connect the lights to an existing system, e.g. Philips HUE or Homeassistant.
- Choose Tuya if you want to extend Zigbee to whole home control (curtains, locks, cameras, etc). Or if you just like stylish wall displays.
- Choose DALI if you're building a large complex and want to wire all your lighting controls and don't need to control other devices from the same system.
