The production of fluorescent tubes and CFLs will be discontinued in 2023, but LED tubes can be purchased for the same body. For some lights, an LED tube is available that will fit the light without modification, but other lights will require modification before the LED bulb can be installed.
In businesses, LED tubes work well in production areas, warehouses and shops as general lighting. LED tubes are also widely used in offices and lobbies. In such applications, switching to LED tubes can result in significant electricity savings.
Differences between LED tube and fluorescent tube
Ecology
Depending on the type, fluorescent tubes produce around 45-75 lumens/W, and LED tubes around 120 lumens/W. Electricity is saved when a 58W fluorescent tube can be replaced by a 25W LED tube and get the same light output.
In fluorescent tube luminaires with a high quality aluminium reflective surface, replacing the fluorescent tube with an LED tube of equivalent wattage is likely to give less light. This is because the LED tube is not omnidirectional and does not get the additional benefit of the reflective surface. Some LED tubes can be rotated 360 degrees in the body, so they can be directed to illuminate through the light. In this case, the light becomes indirect and all light is reflected through the body.
Fluorescent tubes contain/contain e.g. mercury and phosphorus, which is why they should be sorted into onglow waste. LED tubes do not contain hazardous waste and are a more ecological option on that basis as well.
Lighting characteristics
LedStore LED tubes have a high light rendering index ( CRI over 90) compared to older fluorescent tubes, which typically had a CRI of only 80. LED tubes have a wider range of light color temperatures and LED tubes are available that can even change the hue of the light.
The LED tube lights up instantly, without flickering, so it can be used in conjunction with a motion sensor. Of the fluorescent tubes, T8 (magnetic choke) usually flashes when lit, while T5 (electronic ballast) lights immediately without flickering.
LED tubes are available in dimmable (easy) versions. In fluorescent tubes, only T5 fluorescent tubes could be dimmed with 1-10V or DALI systems, but such solutions have been rare.
Lifetime
LED tube light output does not drop as the bulb ages, while fluorescent tube light output has already dropped by almost 70% before the bulb finally breaks down. Vibration reduces the lifetime of fluorescent tubes, while LED tubes are not affected by vibration. Long life reduces the need for maintenance and saves time and money.

LedStoren LED tubes
The LED tubes we currently sell are T8 tubes, with a G13 base. We manufacture the tubes ourselves from high quality components, with a particular focus on the colour rendering index of the light, so that the colours of the surrounding space are reproduced naturally.
Our LED tubes are made of aluminium and the diffuser is made of opal acrylic. The LED tubegives light at an angle of 180 degrees. The aluminium cools the LED circuits, which prolongs the life of the tube and strengthens its construction. The tube has no glass, which makes it safe to transport.
LedStore 3 in 1 LED tube
LedStore's 3 in 1 LED tube is dimmable and has three options for light output and light colour temperature.
- Choose a shade: 3000K, 4000K or 5000K
- Choose your light output: 6W/9W/12W for 60cm, 15W/18W/20W for 120cm and 25W/30W/35W for 150cm.
- LED tube can be dimmed 50-100%
- Perfect colour reproduction CRI98! See the tones of the environment as they are intended.

LedStore compatible LED tube
These LED tubes are designed to replace an old fluorescent tube without modification. Often compatible (retro-fit) LED tubes are slightly more expensive due to the technology used. These LED tubes can therefore be safely replaced by an old fluorescent tube.
LedStore's basic LED tube
These single end LED tubes are suitable for LED frames. If you want to use this LED tube, you will first have to modify the lights by removing the choke and only one end of the tube will be supplied with 230V. The modification must only be carried out by a professional with the necessary electrical licenses!
LED tube safety
When LED tubes first came on the market, there were some models that were not electrically safe. In these tubes, electricity passed through the entire bulb, meaning that during the installation phase, the electricity that passed through the light could come directly into your hand. The safety problems were reported in Building magazine in spring 2010.
Such LED tubes may still be installed in some locations, which should be taken into account when replacing the bulb. Switch off the power at the fuse box, so there is no need to panic.
We never had such pipes for sale. In our tubes, the current only enters at one end, which is one of the most important safety features of an LED tube. Our tubes are safe, CE marked and meet international standards.
What to replace the fluorescent tube?
If you are replacing both the light source and the fluorescent bulb, you should also look at other lighting options. It may be worth upgrading the entire lighting system.
Offices and shops
The uniform and efficient lighting created by fluorescent tubes is being transformed into modern lighting, depending on the function and the space. Today, offices often have coffered ceilings where, in addition to lighting, ventilation and other elements are installed. The cassette roof is easy to install 600*600mm LED panels, so the lighting in offices and some shops is often implemented with panel lights. Panel lights can be combined with various lighting control systems and are versatile and efficient.
Leisure and lounge areas
In hobby spaces, panel luminaires or LED strips are often used, depending on the desired light output. By replacing LED tubes with panels or LED strip, the mood of the space can be significantly changed to a more welcoming one: better colour rendering ensures more pleasant light.
The fluorescent lighting behind the living room curtain wall is very easy to replace with LED strip. Behind the curtain wall you often have everything you need to install an LED strip. The range of LED strip and its control options is much wider than LED tubes, so there is plenty to choose from!

1. Mitä etuja LED putket tarjoavat verrattuna loisteputkiin?
LED tubes are more energy efficient and longer lasting than traditional fluorescent tubes. They also contain no mercury, making them more environmentally friendly and safer to use. LED tubes are available with better light colour rendering and in a wider range of light colours.
2. Voiko LED putket asentaa suoraan loisteputkien tilalle?
Yes, LED tubes can often be installed directly in place of old fluorescent tubes. However, it is important to check the compatibility of the light and, if necessary, replace the light or have the old light modified by an electrician.
3. Miten LED putket vaikuttavat energiankulutukseen?
LED tubes consume up to 50% less energy than fluorescent tubes, reducing electricity bills and making them a cost-effective alternative in the long term.
4. Mitä valon värilämpötiloja LED putkissa on saatavilla?
LED tubes are available in different colour temperatures, such as warm white (approx. 3000 K), neutral white (approx. 4000 K) and cool white (approx. 5000-6500 K), making them suitable for a wide range of applications.
5. Mitkä ovat LED putkien huoltovaatimukset?
LED tubes are virtually maintenance-free thanks to their long lifetime. They do not require regular replacement and are highly resistant to ignition cycles, significantly reducing maintenance costs.
