CCT OR KELVIN ADJUSTABLE LED SPOTS FOR CREATING ATMOSPHERE

One of the best advantages of colour temperature control is the possibility of changing the atmosphere. For active daytime, the spot can be set to a cool white light reminiscent of a clear day, and for evening, a warm white light reminiscent of the glow of a fireplace or sunset. There is a growing body of research on the impact of lighting on human biological rhythms and health benefits, which, on the basis of current evidence, suggests that in addition to comfort, the colour temperature of lights can also influence factors such as alertness.

CCT - colour temperature control range

Almost all our spot models in our range also have a colour temperature control version. We call them CCT (Correlated Color Temperature). Their colour temperature, or Kelvin, can be set to three different settings (warm, neutral and cold white). With a suitable control device, this can also be done continuously (between approx. 2500K and 6500K). CCT spots are not only dimmable, but also have a very high colour rendering index. The colour rendering index measures how natural the colours appear in the light of the luminaire. A poor colour rendering index will, for example, give a room a dirty yellow feel.

Why choose a colour temperature controlled spotlight?

A temperature-controlled spotlight allows you to change your interior to suit your mood, or for example to match the rhythm of the human chirp. In a chiral rhythm, the temperature and brightness of the light changes to mimic sunlight, giving a cooler light in the morning and a warmer light in the evening, for example. This supports the natural hormonal function of humans and enhances the natural circadian rhythm of the human day.

Award-winning expertise

Developed and manufactured by LedStore, the product family has won several international awards for its functionality, elegance and quality. We test and develop our own products to ensure they are of high quality and incorporate the latest technologies.

CCT spots fit everywhere

Our Kelvin adjustable luminaires are suitable for all areas of the home, both wet and dry, and also outdoors. Directional CCT spots are well suited to sloping ceiling surfaces, while those with a solid body are not affected by dampness in wet areas.

How does the colour temperature control work?

Colour temperature control is achieved technically by adjusting the voltage between the cold and warm LED circuits. There are 2 different ways to adjust the colour temperature in spots.

BASIC way

A standard transformer can be selected for the spots at a reduced overall price. The standard transformer is TRIAC dimmable. On the side of the transformer or on the cable there is a 3-position switch to select cold, neutral or warm as the colour of the light. You can change the transformer setting by taking the luminaire down and disconnecting the power supply. Not for everyday changes. The spot transformer fits through the spot mounting hole.

FREE way

In this installation method, each spot is purchased without a standard transformer. The spots are connected to a group transformer in parallel or series, allowing the entire group of spots to be controlled from a single source.

The group transformer can be placed further away (+10m) and usually requires a service hatch.

Each spot has 3 wires (+, cold and warm) which are connected to the transformer. You can use your own 3-pole wiring, or use LedStore's ready-made wiring harness with pull-out and branching.

Advantages of FREE adjustment

You can choose any temperature and brightness level to your liking. Free adjustment is done from a button or from the app you use.

Buttons can be either freely programmable or simple one-group buttons that allow you to adjust the colour temperature and brightness of the light in the luminaire.

An app can be used alongside the buttons, with benefits such as.

  • Automation (motion sensors, clock, etc.)
  • Scenet (certain lights are adjusted as a group)
  • Lights with a light tone that imitates the sun's cycle (circadian rythm)

There are differences between applications and we are happy to tell you more about them. Programmable buttons require an app to work.

FREE adjustment control techniques

Zigbee CCT

A wireless and reliable technology where only mains power is supplied to each transformer. Each Zigbee transformer also acts as a network amplifier, extending the connection path between the buttons and the devices. The network works in two directions and the signal always takes the shortest route to the terminal. If a device is removed, Zigbee automatically repairs the network and finds a new route. The buttons have a range of 20 metres to the nearest device.

The control buttons are freely positionable, as the button talks wirelessly to the transformer. The button also uses a battery so no wiring is required, and because it only consumes power when the button is used, it lasts for several years (CR2032). The buttons are 55x55mm wide and fit for example EXXACT, INTRO, and similar frame sets. You can use more than one button to control the same group and change your mind freely.

In addition to the buttons, you can control groups of luminaires with the app by purchasing a Zigbee 3.0 Hub. There are several manufacturers of Hubs, including:

  • Philips HUE
  • VaLO WIFI Zigbee HUB
  • Lild (silvercrest)
  • Conbee2 USB
  • IKEA Trådfri
  • Homey

All of the above are great for lighting control, but there are functional differences. Some only allow you to control lights, while others can be connected to various sensors. If you already have a working system, you can continue to use it without worry.

DALI and DALI2

DALI is a wired control technology with a long history. DALI requires a 2-pole bus cable for each control device in addition to mains power. Therefore, DALI sites often run a 5x1.5mm3 cable everywhere, so that when the power is wired, a bus cable is also provided, as 2 wires are reserved for the bus.

In DALI everything is controlled by the DALI Master, which is the heart of the system. Each DALI device is connected to a bus from the DALI Master, which is like a blood vessel. The information sent by the devices travels along it all the time, in both directions.

The newer DALI2 allows CCT, RGB and RGB+CCT controls with a single DALI address, which is a major advantage as it makes DALI programming much easier.

DALI programming is more cumbersome than Zigbee programming, but it has its supporters and is used in prestige locations, hotels, etc. The physical cable connects all devices and is therefore reliable in its operation. Buttons are also usually powered by the DALI bus cable.

As with Zigbee, it makes sense to use group transformers for DALI. Of course, each luminaire can also be supplied with its own transformer, allowing individual luminaires to be controlled.
