Bathrooms are more versatile, and bathrooms in new homes are also more spacious than they were a few decades ago. The single-purpose room has become a private zone of relaxation, where escape from everyday life and self-indulgence are also allowed. LED lighting in the bathroom increases both the efficiency of work and the luxury of the relaxation experience.
Bathroom led lighting needs
Whether your bathroom is brand new or renovated to meet new needs, you will have noticed that lighting needs are varied. The working light must be bright enough and of a clean colour to ensure that, for example. caring for clothes goes smoothly. Applying makeup needs suitable light, from the sides or from above. It is an advantage if the lighting can be dimmed when necessary, to provide enough soft lighting for those atmospheric moments in the evening. Bathroom LED lighting can also be made with spotlights e.g. in the shower room. When lighting a bathroom, you must also remember that the lights used are water resistant. In most cases, you should choose a minimum IP44 rated luminaire for your bathroom.
Suitable solutions for mirror lighting
Backlighting of the mirror with an LED strip creates nice mood.
The most ideal solution for bathroom mirror lighting is to install lamps on the sides of the mirror, because then the light illuminates the face so that the light comes into the face. A light mounted above the mirror is also an ideal solution to illuminate the face, for example to make it easier to apply make-up or shave. Atmospheric indirect lighting can also be crated with LedStore's products with mirrors of different shapes (square or round), by using LED strip, as long as the mirror frame is made from aluminium or other highly heat conductive material. Led strips can be selected, for example, as a Mood led strip if you want to adjust the light colour temperature between warm and cool white.
Clean, white light for general lighting
Led lighting in the bathroom should be implemented with a pure white light colour, i.e. 4000 Kelvin. The advantage of recessed 4000 K luminaires is that they bring a fresh and clean overall look to a space, which is often white in tone. We recommend recessed LED panels or LED spots for general lighting. All our spots and panels are dimmable, so you can adjust the light to suit the time of day.
Shower and bath area lighting
The light in showers and baths should be bright enough for washing, shaving and reading soap product labels. If you use LED lighting in the bathroom as general lighting, e.g. panel in the ceiling, a few spotlights or, alternatively, an LED strip on the back wall of the shower can be well placed in the shower and bath area.
We do not recommend adjustable spotlights for damp areas, as water vapour could enter the light body and ceiling structures.
To avoid glare, choose spots with a matt diffuser. We have a good selection of these, for example, PYÖREÄ 023 and Fixed KANTTI.
Sauna lighting
LED strip lighting can be used in the sauna, as long as it is mounted low enough (to stay cool).
In the sauna, we recommend installing LED strip under the seats, so that the LEDs do not get too hot. For example, a dimmable LED ribbon creates a pleasant atmosphere under the tablecloths. For the colour of the light in the sauna, we recommend warm 3000 K ribbons. LEDs have a poor resistance to temperatures above 50 degrees, so the recommended installation height also depends on how hot you want to heat the sauna. Our current range does not include ceiling-mounted so-called star-sky type LED sets or LED fibres, because the temperatures in the ceiling become so high that the lifetime of the LED is significantly reduced and the heat may even break them. Our sauna spots can be installed 80 cm from the ceiling on top of the sauna stove.
