ATMOS Helsinki's new hairdressing salon needed high quality working lighting that would be suitable for precise hairdressing work. The owners completely renovated the premises, which meant that new solutions could also be found for the lighting. Large LED panels were chosen for general lighting, along with adjustable track spotlights that direct light precisely to avoid glare for customers at the washing stations.
Led panels provide enough light
"In a barbershop, lighting plays a very important role. A lot of light is needed and it has to be as even as possible to avoid shadows. A high colour rendering index ensures that the hair colours look right," says Joni Laulumaa of Atmos Helsinki Oy, describing the importance of lighting.

The height of the space was a key factor in the choice of lighting for the salon. "Our space has a room height of 3.6 metres and we wanted to keep it as spacious as possible. We opted for ceiling-mounted LED panels, which have sufficient light output, a high colour rendering index and are unobtrusive. Many customers have mistaken them for ceiling lights. In addition, the adjustable colour temperature allows you to create just the right atmosphere in your salon. The LED panels also provide even, high-quality light, which makes working pleasant for the eyes," says Laulumaa.

Atmos’s high-quality task lighting was created using 600x1200 LED panels installed in surface frames, each with a power consumption of 72 W and a light output of 6000 lumens per fixture. If the same light output had been desired using halogen fixtures, the power consumption would have multiplied. In the salon, electricity consumption is reduced by about sevenfold with the panels compared to halogen lights, which aligns with the salon’s goal of being a responsible energy user.
