    DALI Master

    The unit is a DALI MCU (Master Control Unit) with a built-in DALI bus power supply that can supply power to the DALI bus when connected to 100-240VAC mains. It can also supply power to the DALI bus when not connected to the AC mains.

    Up to 2 MCUs can be connected to the AC mains, the other MCUs are powered by the DALI bus. Each control circuit allows simultaneous integration of up to 100 DALI ECGs and up to 4 DALI MCUs (control points).

    As the unit is a MCU (Master Control Unit), it can be used without the traditional DALI MASTER. The controller receives mains power and the two wires (DALI bus) are fed directly to the DT8 RGB DALI transformers and controllers. Nothing else!

    The device thus acts as a DALI master for up to 50 devices. This makes it ideal for an office or home as a simple controller without DALI programming.

    What is DALI?

    DALI dimming is a lighting control system that uses a digital protocol to communicate between the lighting controller and the lights themselves. This allows precise control of the brightness and colour of individual lights or groups of lights, as well as the storage and recall of pre-programmed lighting conditions. DALI dimming systems usually consist of a DALI controller that sends commands and DALI-compatible luminaires that can receive and respond to these commands.

    DALI works best when it is designed and built from the ground up. This is because it needs two control wires running between the devices.

    DALI is challenging for a beginner to understand. What do all the terms mean? Here are the terms in brief

    DALI-master

    A DALI master is a control centre or heart, which usually also contains the power supply for the DALI bus. The DALI-master is the brain of the system, controlling all the devices. The master can be programmed and used in different ways depending on the master.

    • A USB connection is made between the computer and the master and the DALI software is installed on the computer.
    • IOT version where the master is controlled by a mobile phone/tablet wirelessly over the same Wlan network.

    DALI bus

    Where the DALI Master is the heart of the system, the DALI bus is the artery. It carries all commands digitally between all devices. The bus is a 2-pole cable that connects to EACH DALI device! The maximum length of the bus is usually 300 meters. The bus can be extended with repeaters/power supplies or by adding DALI masters.

    DALI bus power supply

    This is usually included in the DALI master. Its function is to maintain the bus voltage, the bus carries a 100-300mA 16V voltage which carries information.

    ECG

    ECG stands for Electronic Contor Gear, which is any device that supplies voltage to lights etc. This includes DALI transformers and DALI relays. One DALI master can control up to 64 (OUTPUT) ECG devices.

    ECD

    ECD stands for Electronic Control Device, a device that controls devices such as DALI buttons and DALI sensors. One DALI master can control up to 64 (INPUT) ECDs.

    Group

    In DALI, devices can be added to groups. One DALI master can have up to 16 groups. The purpose of a group is to reduce the number of DALI signals in the network and to facilitate operation. When a group receives a command, for example, to dim, all ECG devices in that group will dim. The devices in the group therefore behave identically. If you want the devices in the group to be at different levels, this is a scene.

    Scene

    In DALI, scenes can be programmed/stored on buttons. There can be up to 16 scenes in one DALI master. These have values between 0 and 15. The purpose of a scene is to create different lighting modes.

    For example, 50% of the output of a spotlight in a living room and 80% of the output of an LED strip light with a single command. This makes everyday use easier.

WHAT IS CRI, THE COLOUR RENDERING INDEX

High quality LED lights also have a high colour rendering index, or CRI. A good colour rendering index (CRI) for home use is above 90, and nowadays many market lights are unfortunately closer to 80.

CRI tells you how well an LED light displays colours as they should be. For designers and architects, as well as interior designers, it should be one of the most important considerations. Make sure the lighting is perfect so that your artwork is what it is meant to be.

Colour rendering index

The colour rendering index is expressed as a number on a scale from zero to 100, where 0 = no colour rendering and 100 = full colour rendering. The colour rendering index of LED lights is also known as Ra, which is measured on a smaller scale than CRI. This Ra value does not include red tones or skin tones, for example, so it is a 'glossed' figure for the true quality of an LED light.

RA value

The Ra value measures the reproduction of colours using eight different reference colours. CRI takes into account the wider (15) wavelength range, including reds and other warm colours.



The Ra value is calculated by cutting the wavelength range, weighting the blue and violet tones, and calculating the weighted average of R numbers 1-8.

Excluded from the Ra value are, for example, the colour rendering of bright reds, yellows and greens, and shades close to skin tone. These are described by R-values between 9 and 15. The following is a picture of a measurement result that easily confuses the consumer.

Throughout the product development process, his own experience in building houses and installing lighting has been at the top of the list of requirements. The requirement list for CCT spotlights with colour temperature control included the following features:

  12. Sustainability - The components of the luminaires must be able to be bought later.

WHAT IS THE REAL INNOVATION HERE?

There have been CCT lights on the market for a few years now, but all of them have used only pre-fixed switches, with a CRI of around 80. These products have also often been made of plastic, or thin sheet metal, with poor colour rendering. It's okay for customers to be free to choose the shade of light during installation, but why stop there?

TWO INSTALLATION METHODS

Basic:

Standard, where the luminaire comes with a transformer with a 3-position switch. The switch allows you to select a light temperature of 2900K/4000/5500K at the installation stage. The luminaire is TRIAC dimmable. The Led luminaires can be installed in chains.

Customizable:

Freely selectable from 2900-5500K. Selection is done by the desired lighting control system such as ZIgbee, DALI2, Z-Wave, etc. All lights are 24VDC parallel connected. Easy to add/remove Led lights. That is, the luminaire is purchased "Without its own transformer" and the luminaires are connected in parallel to one group transformer. This way all the luminaires behind the transformer are controlled by one single group and the CCT colour temperature of the luminaires can be freely adjusted and dimmed.

ACCESSORIES FOR THE PRODUCT FAMILY

The CCT product family also includes a complete IP54, pull-protected cabling kit with a 3 metre intermediate cable, and a choice of 3-piece or 6-piece splitter.

You can also use your own 3 pole cable for installation.

WHAT IS A COLOUR TEMPERATURE ADJUSTABLE LUMINAIRE?

A CCT-led light is a luminaire that allows you to change the colour temperature of white light. The range depends on the led luminaire, but can be as low as 2500K - 6500K.

The changes in colour temperature, which are clearly visible to the eye, range from yellowish light to bluish light. A temperature-controlled LED light changes the hue of the light so that the luminaire itself always has two LED circuits in parallel; cold and warm.

When the mixing ratio of the two is changed with a control, the colour temperature of the light changes. In addition to the possibility of changing the colour temperature of the light, the luminaires are dimmable.

Different materials and colours react differently to different light spectrums. It is very important to find the right colour temperature to suit your needs.
