History of MR16 lamps

The MR16 lamp, where "MR" stands for "Multifaceted Reflector", has been a popular choice for targeted lighting and task lighting for many years. The "16" in MR16 refers to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch, meaning MR16 lamps have a diameter of 2 inches (50mm).

Originally, MR16 lamps were halogen lamps, known for their bright, focused light but also for their high energy consumption and lambda production (230 Celsius!).

With the development of LED technology, LED MR16 lamps have become an energy-efficient alternative, providing the same precise lighting with lower energy consumption and longer life.

Installation and maintenance

Easy installation

LED MR16 lamps typically have a two-pole GU5.3 base. Installation is simply a matter of inserting the pins into the corresponding socket and pressing the bulb into place.

Minimal maintenance

Thanks to their long lifetime, LED MR16 lamps require only minimal maintenance. Make sure they stay polish-free by cleaning them occasionally with a soft cloth.

12V LED transformers

Our range also includes high quality dimmable 12V led transformers. Remember that when you replace your halogen bulbs with LED bulbs, you will usually have to replace the transformers as well.

Why does a Halogen transformer (12V) not work with LEDs?

Halogen transformers typically have an inrush voltage. The transformer has an operating range, for example 40-200W, which means that the transformer will not operate unless it has a load of 40W or less.

• 3pcs 50W halogen = 150W
• 3pcs 7W LED = 21W

So the transformer will not work because the minimum load was not met. Led converters work with 1W load.
