LED drivers

The LED transformer is selected according to the power supply, consumption, installation location and desired control mode. For example, for a 24V led strip, only a 24V led transformer is suitable and the size of the led transformer is chosen according to the efficiency of the led strip and the total amount of the strip. For example, a solution for a terrace that is to be dimmable with a standard dimmable button:

• Choose a ribbon, usually 7,2/m ribbon (24V) 3000K, lamp white, so that the lighting is not too bright.
• Calculate how much the ribbon consumes, e.g. 4x2,5m ribbon consumption is 10x7,2W= 72W, add +10% = 79,2W.
• Choose a led driver that can handle up to 80W and is TRIAC dimmable and moisture-proof. In this case the most suitable led transformer would be: TRIAC 24V 100W

The choice of a led transformer is influenced by the dimming mode, the need for moisture protection and the power of the leds connected to the transformer. We recommend that you always charge the led transformer with +10% overload at most, so that the led transformer is not overloaded. This way the led transformer will have a long lifetime.

In most cases, the led transformer is placed either inside the ceiling or in a cabinet. The placement must be such that the led transformer can be accessed without breaking any structures, i.e. a service hatch for the led transformer must usually be made in the ceiling. In some cases, for example, the led transformer for the led strip is taken into an adjacent room (wardrobe/storage room etc.) to keep the installation as simple as possible. In the kitchen, popular installation locations include the top of the cabinetry in addition to the cabinetry, and the back of the spice cabinet/range hood, for example.

When to use drivers?

The most common application is LED strip lighting, which always requires a LED transformer. In addition, transformers are also used with led panels, emergency luminaires (led strips, panels and spots) and led spots. Most of our led panels and spots have a TRIAC dimmable led transformer as standard, but for example in DALI controlled applications the basic led transformer is removed and replaced by DALI led transformers in group sizes.

Moisture-proof (IP65+) LED drivers

Our range includes moisture-protected transformers for 12V, 24V and 36V luminaires. Moisture-proof transformers are typically used outdoors and in humid areas when they are distributed in a raised position. In the IP rating, the first number describes the poly protection and the last number the moisture protection, for example IP54 and IP44 have the same moisture protection class.

TRIAC LED drivers

TRIAC transformers are available for 12V, 24V, 36V and 180-1500mA luminaires and led strips. TRIAC transformers can be dimmed with most conventional, replaceable dimmers. It is therefore relatively easy to modify old lighting by replacing the lamp with an LED light and changing the on/off button to an on/off dimmer. DALI LED drivers

DALI transformers are available for 24V and 180-1500mA lamps and LED strips. the choice of a led transformer is therefore influenced by the wattage of the luminaire. DALI transformers are used with the DALI system (digital lighting control system) and compatibility should be checked with both the system and the luminaires.

0/1-10V LED drivers

0/1-10V controllable transformers are available mainly for 24V dimmable luminaires and LED strips and are also mostly 4-in-1, i.e. dimmable with other, more flexible systems. 0/1-10V transformers (analogue arrangement) are used less often nowadays, because dimming wiring requires more wires and e.g. the whole home would become boring with this type of led transformer, without programmable output options. The led transformer and its transmitter are mainly used for dimming fluorescent lamps.

PUSH-DIM LED drivers

There are two types of led transformers suitable for PUSH-DIM dimmers in our range; one is our VaLO range of RF led transformers with the PUSH-DIM feature built in and the other is our 4-in-1 led transformers with the additional option of DALI, TRIAC and 1-10V dimming. PUSH-DIM pushbuttons are often used in renovation projects, for example, where two dimmers are required to replace a 2-piece on/off pushbutton, but it is not possible to make a new space in the wall to accommodate two dimmable pushbuttons. In a garage, the pushbutton is converted to PUSH-DIM.

LED drivers to choose according to voltage 12V, 24V, 36V

The led transformers are listed by voltage to make the selection easier. Typically 12V led transformers are suitable for a few of our ribbon types, 24V transformers can be used with led ribbons, led spots and led panels (depending on the products) and 36V transformers are used with some of our range of spotlights (Kolo, Piilo, EYE and Double KANTTI CCT).

RF controlled LED drivers

LedStore's RF led transformers are part of our VaLO range and can be controlled either by wired or wireless buttons, remote control or mobile device. VaLO RF transformers are available for 24V luminaires (led strips, panels and spots) and 250-1500mA luminaires (some of our panels). Transformers are available for use with single arm, spare lamp and RGB+W lights.

Where to use RF drivers?

The most common application for a wireless led transformer is definitely a renovated kitchen, where the original on/off button fluorescent tubes have been replaced with new lighting. Once the on/off switch was in the fixture, the replacement only provided mains power without a wall switch to turn the light on or off. In a garage, a led strip is often installed, connected to an RF led transformer. The RF led transformer is then controlled by a free-standing, wireless button (includes dimming).

Another common application for RF transformers is CCT and RGB+W luminaires where you want to change the arm, which of course cannot be done with a standard on/off button.

ZIGBEE LED drivers

LedStore's VaLO Zigbee transformers (and the lamps behind them) can be controlled either with wall-mounted wireless buttons or with your Android/iOS device, such as a tablet or phone. You can control your entire home's lighting wirelessly if you wish, but you can also control individual transformers (lamps). Check out our ZigBee products.

If you have a Philips Hue controller, for example, you can use it with IKEA TRÅDFRI, Google Home devices and software, and of course any other Zigbee product.
