Kiinteistötakuu found new premises in Meilahti, Helsinki, where a former convenience store was fully renovated to suit the company’s needs. As part of the renovation, the entire office lighting was renewed in line with the redesigned functionality and interior. The space itself has an interesting history, as a retail shop had operated there for decades. Over the years, the ceiling had seen many different types of lighting, but in this project, the design started from a clean slate. The goal was to create general lighting that would seamlessly connect the two areas, using one consistent light type for the entire office. In addition, efficient and simple task lighting was installed above the workstations.

FOKUS track lighting was chosen to illuminate the office

Mika Lindroos, founder and partner of Kiinteistötakuu, chose the black, eye-catching track lights for the space based on the design, for their versatility and quality of light, among other things. LedStore's track lights come in two wattages (15W and 35W) and two colours (black and white). The colour temperature can be selected on the spot, as there is a switch on the side of the driver to select between warm 2 800 K and neutral 4 100 K or cold 6 200 K. After a short review of the options, a solution was found to purchase 12 FOKUS 35W lights for the space. One light is 190mm in size and 90mm in diameter, with an adjustable beam angle between 10 and 60 degrees. In addition, the lights can be freely oriented. One luminaire produces 3 500 lumens. At its best, office lighting is efficient and adaptable enough.

FOKUS luminaires are suitable for variable general lighting

The office has both open space and corridors. On entering, you enter directly into an open plan meeting and kitchen area, with an open-plan, six-person workspace to the left. At the end of the workspace is a group of sofas. From the entrance to the right, past the kitchen, you reach the coat storage and toilet corridor. There will be storage space in the middle of the space. The luminaires were chosen to fit in with the lighting throughout the space, and to create a coherent look. The lighting was also used to create contrast in the space, so black luminaires on the same coloured mounting rail created the desired atmosphere.

Efficient working lighting with aluminium profile and LED strip

The workspace was made more spacious by arranging the workstations in a tight group in the centre of the space, while a single linear luminaire also provided efficient lighting for the table tops. The space has large windows, but the task lighting provides good, even and glare-free light. The task light was customized with LedStore's 80 mm x 90 mm hanging profile. The total length of the profile is 2 500 mm, and two of them were installed in a row. Four HELMI 14.4 W/m strips were chosen in parallel, and dimmable drivers were chosen to fit inside the profile. The power cables are suitable for a three-phase rail. The profile is available in white, but was painted black. This resulted in unique and high colour rendering index desktop lighting.

Office lighting and work with display terminals

When working on a screen, it is good to have enough even light in the environment and not to have luminaires glare on the screen. FOKUS lights have a wide range of controls to direct the light correctly. Office lighting is usually 4 000 K, neutral, which gives a fresh and pleasant colour temperature, but also makes work easier. A colour temperature of around 4 000 Kelvin makes vision easier, as the ability to perceive contrasts is enhanced by the cooler hue of the light. All office luminaires were selected at 4 000 Kelvin.
