Among compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), the G23 lamp has long since found its place. Known for its bipolar cap and U-shaped design, the G23 is efficient and versatile. Now it is also available as a high quality G23 LED lamp.
The G23 lamp is a type of CFL with a special bipolar stem known as the G23 stem. The lamp generally has a U-shaped tube and is used in a variety of applications where space and energy efficiency are vital.
CFLs, including G23 lamps, operate by passing a sawtooth current through a tube containing argon and a small amount of mercury vapour. This produces ultraviolet light, which excites a fluorescent coating on the inside of the tube, producing a naked light. So this is a fluorescent tube.
An LED is a problem-free, high-speed semiconductor that produces light.
The G23 has two pins which are used to connect the bulb to the lamp. This type of lampholder is designed for specific lamps that fit the G23 pin holder.
The G23 lamp is generally U-shaped. The stem contains two pins for mounting. The body of the lamp contains a tube in which gas and phosphorus are hyodinated to produce light.
The LED G23 is 180 degrees illuminating so, the light only comes in one direction. The bodies of the lamps above are shaped so that light is only needed in one direction.
G23 lamps are available with different wattages and back-up lamp modes to suit different needs. Common models include 9 watt and 18 watt variants.
For LED G23 we have created the most common need and the 8W LED G23 is equivalent to the 18W compact fluorescent model.
The average CFL G23 lamp has a lifetime of approximately 10 000 hours. The LED G23 has a lifetime of up to more than 35 0000 hours. They are available in different lamp modes from white to neutral. On request only (min. 200pcs)
The G23 lamp can be identified by its bipolar cap and distinctive U-shaped tube. The packaging or cap of the lamp often bears the "G23" mark. The G23 is not compatible with the GX23 because of these tabs.
G23 lamps are used in a variety of residential applications such as shop lamps, under-cabinet lighting and some outdoor lighting.
In commercial and industrial environments, G23 lamps are used for task lighting, recessed luminaires (low beam)
The LED G23 is installed by aligning the pins and pushing the LED G23 into the compatible luminaire. Always ensure that the luminaire is switched off before installation.
Use frequent on/off switching and ensure that the bulb is used in a suitable lamp that does not cause overheating.
If the lamp is on or does not light up, make sure it is installed correctly or consider replacing it if it is nearing the end of its life.
LED G23 lamps are more energy efficient than CFL versions. As CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, proper detection is essential. The LED does not contain a problematic wire, but it should be recycled.
LED G23 offers reliable performance throughout its lifetime and is much more energy efficient than CFL alternatives.
LED G23 lamps are affordable but have a higher initial cost compared to CFLs. But pollution comes with time!
